hi.

was just thinking,

that thing in board posts that tells you how many carictas you have left..do we really need it?

i mean, unless you keep going to preview your post then i don't think the feature is any good.

iver remove it completely, or you could change it so that the user knows how many they have left, just by using the arrows

what do you think?

Hmm it's useful if your writing a story and want to limit the word count, or an equally long post, I don't really see a problem with this.

good point, i was just trying to make it easier so that people didon't have to stop what they were doing just to check

They would probably have to stop to check for typo's ect

yes, but that's easily done when you preview your post at the end

Then you may miss typos and regret it later there are several in my poems that annoyed me to no end.

I'm with Goblin on this one. I think it is a useful feature and lets not forget here, unles you are posting something particularly long, it isn't even something you need consider.

The 4000 character limit prohibits posts which are too long and would be a strain on the system to both load and store. Just think: Without a character limit, someone with mal-intent could potentially post something that's about 10 Megabytes worth of data. That would be a lot of text the zone would have to decipher (approximately 10485760 characters), and just more trouble for the site admins.

I made a post about this Dan, it's somewhere down the board. yeah, I get the point, but ahh, it is frustrating sometimes that damned character limit

Well, I have posted some 900 plus posts now on these boards and can only think of one occasion when i acceded the 4000 letter limit so you see, it isn't something that happens very often. As Kai says, if you are regularly posting things that are bigger than the space aloud here, then maybe here is the wrong place for those posts.

I must have been half asleep. What I meant was: By removing these restrictions, you introduce the temptation and ability.

Don't worry Kai, we got the gist of what you were saying! lol

Maybe we should have a limit of two pages?? More than 4096 characters?? I would agree with Dan on lengthening the posts!

I think that the limits are fine as thye are personally...there's really no reason to make them longer...
